AudioScape XL-305R Dual is a stereo spring reverb plugin inspired by the rare XL-305R hardware design. Developed in collaboration with Kiive Audio, it brings AudioScape’s distinctive equally tempered spring reverb sound into a modern DAW workflow.
Unlike a typical spring reverb, the XL-305R concept is based on 12 individual springs tuned together, creating a smoother, more diffuse and musical decay. The result can move from subtle, spacious ambience toward a more obvious spring character depending on how hard the reverb is driven.
The plugin includes independent stereo controls, wet/dry mix adjustment, four-band EQ for shaping the reverb tone, overload indicators, mono drive and mono return options, plus artist presets for quick starting points.
AudioScape XL-305R Dual is designed for vocals, guitars, drums, synths and other instruments that need depth, dimension and vintage-inspired character without relying on a conventional digital hall or plate algorithm.

AudioScape XL-305R Dual recreates the character and workflow of AudioScape’s XL-305R equally tempered stereo spring reverb in plugin form.
The design traces its inspiration to the original XL-305/MicMix concept, a spring-based reverb known for its unusual construction and smooth decay. AudioScape’s modern hardware version was reimagined over several years with input from original XL-305 designer Wayne Kirkwood, before the concept was brought into software with Kiive Audio.
What makes the XL-305R concept unusual is its 12-spring assembly.
Rather than relying on a conventional spring configuration, the springs are tuned together in an equally tempered arrangement. AudioScape compares the resulting behavior to opening a piano lid, holding the dampers open and singing into the strings.
This approach is intended to produce a smoother and more diffuse reverb response while retaining the distinctive movement and personality associated with physical spring reverbs.
The XL-305R can respond differently depending on how it is driven.
At gentler settings, the effect can deliver a smoother ambience that AudioScape has described as moving toward a plate-like character. Pushing the input harder brings out more of the recognizable spring behavior and texture.
This makes the plugin useful for a variety of sources:
The XL-305R Dual provides stereo processing based on the dual-channel architecture of the original hardware-inspired design.
Each side can be shaped independently, allowing more control over the stereo reverb image and tonal balance.
The input controls determine how strongly the signal drives the virtual reverb system.
Increasing the input can produce a more pronounced and energetic response, while overload indicators help monitor the signal level.
Mix controls allow the dry and wet signal balance to be adjusted for each channel.
This makes it possible to use the XL-305R Dual as a subtle spatial effect, a heavily processed reverb, or as part of a more experimental stereo setup.
Each channel includes a four-band boost/cut EQ for shaping the tone of the reverb.
You can adjust the frequency balance of the wet signal to make the reverb darker, brighter, thinner, warmer or more focused.
The Mono Drive function links the stereo channels to make the stereo image easier to control as a unified source.
The Mono Return function sums the reverb return to mono, providing another option for controlling width and placement.
The plugin includes artist presets from contributors including:
These presets provide starting points for exploring different uses of the XL-305R Dual sound.
