UnderTone Audio’s UnFairchild 670M II is hardware that took the Fairchild circuit and fixed its constraints — adding four variable time constants alongside the six originals, a user-adjustable DC Threshold, switchable feed-back and feed-forward detection, M/S operation, sidechain filtering and true bypass. The plugin, developed with MixLand, models that machine rather than the 1959 original.

Every hardware function is reproduced except three that make no sense in software — Gain Trim, Balance and the GR Zero meter scale. The Fairchild 670 is the most mythologised compressor ever built, and also one of the most awkward to actually use.
