A Vintage Steel-String Acoustic for Kontakt
Native Instruments SESSION GUITARIST – PICKED ACOUSTIC brings the character of a carefully sampled 1973 Martin 00-21 into Kontakt. The instrument combines a pattern-based acoustic guitar with a separate melody instrument, giving you two different approaches for building realistic guitar performances.
The pattern instrument provides 194 picking and strumming patterns, while the separate melody instrument lets you play or program your own parts. Native Instruments lists 37 songs within the pattern content, with each song providing related performance material for building cohesive arrangements.
Two Instruments for Patterns and Melodies
PICKED ACOUSTIC includes two KONTAKT instruments:
Pattern Instrument
Trigger picking rhythms, arpeggios and strumming performances in real time. Patterns can stay synchronized with your host project and can be used as a fast starting point for songwriting and production.
Melody Instrument
Play or program individual guitar parts using articulations including open, muted, flageolet/harmonic and tremolo playing. The official documentation also describes performance techniques such as slides, fret noise, hammer-ons and pull-offs.
Three Microphone Setups
The sampled Martin 00-21 was recorded through three different stereo microphone setups, each designed to provide a different tonal perspective:
- Condenser (AB) — a natural, modern stereo sound.
- Dynamic (MS) — a more vintage-oriented character with adjustable stereo width.
- Ribbon (Blumlein) — a richer, warmer vintage tone.
Shape Your Acoustic Guitar Tone
Beyond microphone selection, PICKED ACOUSTIC includes stereo width control, doubling and a built-in effects section. Native Instruments lists processing options including delay, plate reverb, chorus, vintage compression and tape saturation.
MIDI Drag and Drop
The current version also supports MIDI drag and drop, allowing you to move generated or selected performance material into your DAW for additional editing and arrangement.
