John Petrucci has spent decades at the forefront of progressive guitar, and his standards are famously unforgiving. Neural DSP Archetype: Petrucci X is the result of distilling that career into one plugin: four amplifiers covering every side of his tone, his iconic wah, a full pre and post effects chain, and the practice tools to learn it all — built with the man himself, and now also compatible with Quad Cortex and Quad Cortex mini.

Four Amps, Every Era of His Tone

Archetype: Petrucci X gives you four rigorously designed amplifiers. Piezo is voiced for piezo pickups, emulating the natural resonance of an acoustic body (and it loves single coils for glassy cleans). Clean is sonorous and rich, with a bright switch for clarity and definition. Rhythm is thunderous and insanely versatile — its Tight knob, Bite switch and Bass control all interact with the gain structure to shape attack and growl. And Lead is the spaceship: unbelievable sustain and deep harmonic structure that take lead playing to another planet. Each of the Clean, Rhythm and Lead amps gets its own 4-band semi-parametric EQ with high and low-pass filters.

Wah, Compression and Pre Effects

The chain starts with a wah modelled to recreate John’s iconic wah tone exactly, followed by a compressor that conditions your signal with precise dynamic control before the amp. Pre effects add an Overdrive, Phaser/Vibe, Chorus and Flanger — the exact augmentation palette his rig is known for.

Cabsim, IR Loader and Room Mics

The cabsim module carries impulse responses made by Jimmy T at DTHQ, with six virtual microphones you can position freely around the speakers — and it loads your own IRs too. Room controls blend in a subtle room reverb for natural depth, so the cab sounds like it is in a space, not pasted on top of one.

Post Effects: The Dreamy Rack

Three rack-mounted post effects deliver the lush half of the Petrucci sound: a Stereo Chorus with vintage and spatial modes, a Stereo Delay with crossfeed trails, a crystal mode for sparkling repeats and tape saturation for warm harmonic grit, and a dark, foreboding Reverb with celestial shimmer.

Transpose, Doubler, Tuner and Metronome

Transpose pitches your guitar up or down by any interval within ±12 semitones — change tuning without touching a peg. The Doubler projects your signal into a simulated stereo field for an instant double-tracked sound. A live tuner sits at the bottom of the interface, the volume is MIDI-controllable for performance, and the standalone version adds a full metronome with time signature, accent and note-value control.
