Brightness Panner by Sound Particles turns the frequency content of your audio directly into movement — automatically, in real time, with no manual automation required. It will change the way you use sound in space.

Brightness Panner analyzes your audio and moves it around you based on three analysis modes. Brightness mode uses the spectral centroid — the perceptual brightness of the sound — to pan: brighter moments move toward one position, darker moments toward another. Pitch mode uses a monophonic pitch detector so individual notes pan across the field as the melody moves. MIDI mode routes incoming MIDI notes to spatial positions, letting you play the panning like an instrument.

Two panning modes shape the movement. Pan mode is end-to-end particle-based panning: the sound travels between a start point and an end point you define, with greater brightness or pitch shifts pushing it further along the path. Sliding mode glides the sound along custom trajectories for evolving, continuous motion.

The visualization dome is the heart of the interface — a real-time display where you watch every movement your sounds make and shape their trajectories with precision. Set how sounds move: from a speaker position to the center, clockwise from a custom start point, or along your own paths. The randomization option generates fresh panning ideas instantly when you need inspiration.

Brightness Panner works in every format: stereo, surround 5.1 and 7.1, Ambisonics up to 3rd order, binaural, and Dolby Atmos 7.1.2. A sidechain input lets an external signal control the effect instead of the track’s own sound. Familiar dynamics-style controls — threshold, ratio, attack, and release — shape how responsively the panning follows the analysis.
