Have Fun Making Music Again
Tuff Nerds LEADR was built by a producer who spent 16 years in the community, and it shows in every decision: this is an instrument designed to spark ideas, not bury them in menus. LEADR is a lead-focused sampler and synth hybrid for Mac and Windows that combines one-shot samples, built-in oscillators and physically modelled instruments in one playful, retro-styled interface — then supercharges them with a chord engine and a cascading arpeggiator that turn single notes into finished musical ideas.
Three Sound Sources, One Instrument
Every Tuff Nerds LEADR patch starts from up to three sources you blend freely. The dual-slot sampler loads the included one-shots — over 500 custom sounds drawn from the OTAKU one-shot packs — or your own samples. The built-in oscillator section adds classic synth waveforms for weight and bite. And the Instruments source, added in the big 1.27 update, brings physically modelled guitar, strings, voice, choir and flute into the same patch. With the Instrument Stage you can even arrange those instruments like a mini band in a room: speakers set the width, the carpet sets the damping, and lamps and a projector set the mood.
Chord Lock: One Finger, Full Progressions
The signature feature of Tuff Nerds LEADR is Chord Lock. Press one key and hear a whole chord — in scale mode, fixed voicings or fully custom voicings, with strum for human feel and voice leading for smooth changes between chords. Chord Lock sends its chords to your DAW as MIDI, and it can drive other instruments too: route LEADR’s chord and arp output into Serum, Diva or anything else in your session, stack the textures, and keep playing one key. Hooks that used to take an afternoon of piano-roll surgery now happen live, at the speed of playing.
WATERFALL: The Arpeggiator That Flows
Most arpeggiators step. LEADR’s WATERFALL engine cascades — notes overlap into a sustained wash instead of one stepped note at a time, so arpeggios bloom like a piano with the pedal down. Alongside it sits a drawable custom arp with gate, swing, dynamics, grouping, two-hand mode, latch, stab and a DICE button for instant fresh patterns, all with a live visualiser, note flash and saveable arp presets.
Craft, Texture and an 18-Strong FX Rack
CRAFT is where patches are forged: shape every sound with the sampler, oscillators and instruments, then save what you build and recall it in any session. Textures let you layer ambient beds — rain, birds, room tone, chimes — under your sound for instant atmosphere. The full FX rack runs 18 effects deep, and a drawable Mod button lets you modulate almost anything with your own drawn shape. A CHAOS button is there for when you want the instrument to surprise you.
200+ Presets, 500+ One-Shots, Lifetime Updates
Tuff Nerds LEADR ships with more than 200 presets and over 500 one-shots, a library of roughly 1.3 GB that covers leads, keys, plucks, pads and experimental tones for EDM, house, techno, trance, hyperpop and modern electronic production. Every update is free for life — LEADR has already grown new engines, a full preset library, expansions and Logic support since launch, and owners received all of it.
